James V. Dirkes II
P.E., LEED AP, BEMP
With over 30 years experience, James (Jim) Dirkes combines deep knowledge of mechanical systems design, digital controls, facility operation and maintenance, construction oversight and commissioning with the ability to communicate concepts clearly and accurately, in "plain English."
Jim brings extensive experience with HVAC systems, which have been a principal focus of his career, as well as mechanical systems of all types and a wide variety of electrical and digital control systems. As leader of the Building Performance Team, Jim delivers both technical excellence and practical skills, including problem solving and consensus building. When selecting team members for projects, he takes into careful consideration the project's and client's particular needs, ensuring the optimum combination of talent and expertise every time.
Prior to founding Building Performance Team in 2007, Jim served as Vice President of Rapid Engineering in Comstock Park, Mich., and was a Senior Engineer in Facility Planning and Design for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. He is passionate about helping others understand the benefits of improving building performance and is active in writing, presenting and consulting on industry topics.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Jim has earned the rank of Third Dan (third-degree black belt) in Tae Kwon Do. He and his wife Deborah have been married for more than 35 years, and together they have raised seven children to outstanding levels of faith, talent, compassion and maturity.
